We chat to journalist, Ivo Vegter, about his viewpoints on fracking in South Africa.
Ivo Vegter is an independent journalist whose flagship column appears weekly in Daily Maverick. He started out as a technology journalist in 1993, and now writes on a wide range of economic, political, technology and environmental subjects from the perspective of individual liberty and free markets. He is the author of Extreme Environment: How Environmental Exaggeration Harms Emerging Economies, which Random House Struik asked him to write when he began covering fracking in 2011. It was nominated for the 2013 Alan Paton Non-Fiction Award. He is a contributor to various other newspapers, and writes serious analysis for Africa in Fact, the journal of Good Governance Africa.
Ivo has written many columns on shale gas drilling and hydraulic fracturing, examining the
issue from all sides, and concluded that as a potential source of energy, there are few
more attractive options available to South Africa.
