Jerry Mofokeng Wa Makhetha

We are joined by veteran actor Jerry Mofokeng Wa Makhetha on the couch. He joins us to talk about his legendary career, be it in stage acting or screen acting, Jerry has done it all. He has also received a Lifetime Achievement Award for Acting, in 2013 at the 7th annual South African Film and Television Awards.

Jerry’s career has been what many actors aspire to have, he went from acting in the community theatre, back in the 70’s, to being in many critically-acclaimed films such as ‘Cry, The Beloved Country’ ‘One Man One Vote’, ‘Tarzan’, ‘Behind The Badge’ and ‘Tsotsi’ which won an Academy Award back in 2005. Jerry initially had studied at the Wits Drama School, were he majored in acting. Following that he went on to obtain a Masters Degree in Theatre Directing.

He has had many successful highlights in his career, both in the limelight, and behind the scenes. He has been an Associate Artistic Director at The Johannesburg Civic Theatre, to the Chief Director of Mpumalanga Department of Sports and Culture, a lecturer at Wits University, Artistic Director of The State Theatre in Pretoria. He has also had the titles of director, writer, teacher, and including presenter, all under his belt. He is even appeared in international rapper, Drake’s short film, when he was here in South Africa.
